This page will have helpful tips and information about Windows 10 for those that are thinking of upgrading or for those that already have and want to know more.

Windows 10 is a FREE Upgrade until July 28, 2016 if you have Windows 8.x or Windows 7 with Service Pack 2.

Do NOT feel pressure to upgrade even if you get “popups” telling you to do so. See tips below to avoid the automatic upgrade and “popups”.

Windows 10 works very well on a brand new computer and is easy enough to work with (see the series on Windows 10 presented by Jeff Hensel). However, updating an existing computer from Windows Vista, Windows 7 or 8.x is good but can have some difficulties with hardware attached to your computer like printers, external drives, etc. Some simple caution should be followed. I will share that virtually all operating system bugs have been resolved as are many hardware situations as Windows 10 is approaching it’s one year anniversary.

Warding Off Automatic Update to Widows 10

If you have Windows 7 or 8.1, Microsoft will try to update your computer to Windows 10. There are a couple of things you can do to prevent this (if you want to):
Make sure your Windows Update Settings look like this:

When you are offered the update to Windows 10 do not accept it. Make sure you carefully read the update offerings before initiating a download/install. People have initiated the Windows 10 update by mistake.

Installing a utility to block Windows 10 intrusive messages, downloads/install.  I use GWX Control Panel which blocks anything about Windows 10.
