To use Chrome Remote Desktop, you need a google account. This can be a google account using your own email address, or one using a gmail address. If you don’t have an account, decide which way you’d rather do it – using your own email address gives google information about you, but you don’t have another email address to keep track of.
First, browse to google.com, and click “Sign in” in the upper right hand corner. You will be presented with this screen:
Click on “Create Account, and you will get a pop-up asking if it’s “For myself” or “To Manage a Business”.

Choose “For myself”. It will then ask for some information.

Fill in your name (you can “fib”). Either choose a username for a gmail address, or click “Use my current email address instead”, then put in your email address. Choose a password, then click “Next”. Google will then go through a text message verification to a phone of your choosing – this phone number (as far as we know) is not remembered by google. Once that happens, we get the last screen to deal with:

Now, you can put a phone number in for account security (2 factor authentication, or 2FA as we call it in the biz), a recovery email address in case you forget something, and birthday and Gender (none is a choice, and of course, you don’t need to use your real birthday, although you might need to remember what you put in if you forget your password – I’ve personally never needed to enter that information…. Click “Next” and you’ll have a bright, shiny new google account. Then go back to google.com, click the “Sign in” button, and sign in with your new information.
